Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland City Councils and Singleton Council are committed to reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill from our local schools. By subsidising the School Recycling Program FREE of charge (conditions apply) they are supporting our schools to educate students with the skills to minimise waste and understand the value and importance of sustainable living.
Schools can now recycle many of the items found in playground, canteen and staffroom waste through the service as well as their paper and cardboard and containers and bottles don’t need to be washed or rinsed – as long as they are empty.
How Many Free Recycling Bins Can Your School Obtain?
All public and private, primary and high schools in the HRR member Council areas are eligible for a minimum 3 x 240 litre bins (which many Schools already have). Since July 2013 schools with over 500 students have been eligible to apply for an additional free bin per 100 students or have the option of exchanging the recycling bins for one free 3m³ comingled recycling skip (conditions apply).
Schools must complete the School recyling bin registration form to be involved in the new program that commenced in 2013 or to request additional bins they are eligible for. By registering schools commit to providing waste minimisation and recycling education programs to students and complete the Annual Report in Term 4 of each year. Details are outlined in the School Information Pack .
