Hunter Resource Recovery (HRR) is a Not-for-Profit formed in 1996, and is owned and operated on behalf of Cessnock, Lake Macquarie and Maitland Councils, later joined by Singleton Council in 2013.
WHY WAS IT FORMED?
It was formed to utilise the economies of scale to ensure a more affordable recycling service to the then 96,000 homes and businesses.
HRR manages and monitors the performance of the recycling contract and ensures that the best possible service is delivered every time.
In addition, HRR provides a one stop shop for residents who require support for things such as missed collections, damaged bins, lost or stolen bins. In addition, HRR provides the community with educational and recycling advice.
HRR also manages the REAL Team, Recycling Education and Liaison Team. The REAL Team checks recycling bins across the Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Singleton Council areas to assist residents recycle successfully.
These checks help Councils to develop waste strategies to improve recycling rates and to decrease waste to landfill.
